Pneumatic handling is mainly used to transport powdered and soft granulated material to distances from several meters up to hundreds meters with superelevation of some tens meters with transport output up to tens of tons per hour. In many cases it is more advantageous than mechanical conveying by worm, belt or chain conveyors. In some cases it is irreplaceable by mechanical conveying. Compared to mechanical conveying it has a relatively major operational advantage: small number of drives, gears, bearings and other moveable parts that reduce maintenance demands significantly.
Low-pressure pneumatic handling
Pneumatic handling (transport air overpressure up to appr. 10 kPa) uses simple injectors of feeding hopper in pipe for conveyance. Conveyance is continual.
It is appropriate to transport smaller quantities of transported material of low mixing rate. It is particularly used in wood-processing industry. In terms of setting the source of transport air they are divided into overpressured and vacuum.
High-pressure radial blowers are the source of transported air for vacuum pneumatic handling.
Moderated-pressure pneumatic handling
Moderated-pressure pneumatic handling (range of transport air overpressure appr. from 10 to 50 kPa) uses pressurized injectors for conveying and rotating pressure feeders for separation of space with different static pressure. Transport is continual. Rotating pressure feeders are possible to be used for transport of larger quantities of non-abrasive materials to longer distances. Transport air sources for moderated-pressure pneumatic hanling are less capital-intensive and operational reliable air blowers.
